LIMONADIER.DE

When the tide changes without warning, only the adaptable will survive. With Covid-19 restrictions bombarding the hospitality industry, local Berliner, business owner and host of limonadier.de, Erich dos Santos, looked to the online marketplace to reboot his business.
His product was solid. His customer base, healthy. Even so, combining these two things and adapting them to the online marketplace was going to be a challenge. To reward those who believed in limonadier.de’s product and who made the switch to buying cocktails online, Erich turned to iterator.de to find a functional and sustainably crafted solution…

“WE WERE SETTING UP OUR ONLINE COCKTAIL SHOP for limonadier.de AND we WANTED TO FIND A SUSTAINABLE PRODUCT WITH OUR BRANDING TO WELCOME OUR NEW AND EXISTING GUESTS.
wE SAW ITERATOR.DE MADE SUSTAINABLE, 3D PRINTED PRODUCTS AND REALLY LIKED THE IDEA. we saw them ON INSTAGRAM, SO WE REACHED OUT”.

— Erich dos Santos (Host & Business Owner)

STEP ONE.
TALK BUSINESS.

“When I heard Erich was taking his line of cocktails online I was impressed and really curious to learn how he was adapting his business.

He reached out to me through Instagram and gave me a bit of information about what he was looking for. I had some ideas I wanted to share with him, so I suggested he book a Custom 3D Project and set up an appointment.

We met at Limonadier, and straight away I noticed a space that has a lot of soul, heritage, and attention to detail. We talked at length about Erich making his product available online; what the challenges were; and what he wanted to do to reward his guests who were willing to make the jump with him.

I suggested a limited batch of FDM 3D printed coasters with a separate inlay with Limonadier’s logo and a sealed surface. The base of the coaster would be printed in biodegradable PLA, which is durable as long as it’s kept away from heat. He loved the idea! We also talked about the technical qualities of more durable filaments that could be used by his business down the track.

With his wishes pinned down, and a clear concept in my head, I headed back to the studio and got to work on the coaster design.”

STEP TWO.
DESIGN IT.
Print it.

“The great thing about Limonadier’s logo is that it’s round and consists of just two letters. This makes it great not only for online functionality, but also for recreating it in CAD.

I started by sketching out the details of the letters to make a simple extrusion for the inlay and reused the sketch to make the base of the coaster. When fitted, these two 3D objects were designed to create a flush surface with one-another. I also created a lip to catch any condensation that will run down the glass on a hot day.

I exported both of these files and printed the base with FDM and the inlay with DLP. After a few tweaks to get the two to fit just right, I ordered some waterproof sealant to cover the entire top surface. This was to prevent any discolouring should there be any spills and prevent liquids from seeping under the inlay.

I got in touch with Erich to confirm the design of the first prototype, which he really liked, so he went ahead and ordered a batch of twenty”.

STEP THREE.
DELIVER.

“I had the batch of coasters finished and shipped within a week. Once they arrived I got an email from Erich to tell me he was happy with his product and had already shipped some to his guests with their cocktail orders!

It was really cool that I was able to show other businesses just how quick product design with iterator.de can be. Also, with just a few simple tweaks, a product like this can be simplified and be scalable, produce less waste than traditional paper coasts and remain sustainable.

Thank you for getting in touch Erich! I really enjoyed creating a functional, sustainable product for you to give to your guests. Best of luck with your online shop!”.
