VINTAGE GUITAR PEDAL
Every music era has its own unique sound. When Bátor Tóth got his hands on a second-hand guitar pedal from the 1970’s he was excited to hear the unique sounds it used to create. Not long after acquiring it, one of the pedal switches broke. Instead of throwing away a piece of vintage technology, he turned to iterator.de to get it back up and running…
“I KNEW THE COMPONENTS INSIDE WOULD BE SIMILAR TO WHAT MOST GUITAR PEDALS USE TODAY, BUT I WASN’T EXPECTING THEM TO BE SO HARD TO FIND.
I FOUND A SMALLER REPLACEMENT WITH A SIMILAR CONFIGURATION FROM FENDER.
AFTER SPENDING SOME TIME THINKING ABOUT HOW TO FIT THE NEW SWITCH,
I KNEW THIS WAS A PERFECT 3D PRINTING JOB FOR ITERATOR.DE”

STEP ONE. GET THE HARDWARE.
“When Bátor came to me and asked if we could make a taller switch cover to match his new, smaller switch for a rare guitar pedal he was fixing, we jumped at the opportunity. Pedals like these are hard to find and the components are even more so.
Firstly, we asked him to send us both new/old foot switches along with the switch cover, so that we could generate the new 3d printed design for the switch cover. He wanted to get his pedal back in action as quickly as possible, so he delivered his parts to us personally.”

STEP TWO.
MODEL IT.
“The hardware that arrived was much smaller than anticipated and we knew it would be a challenge. We dimensioned the switch cover, then we replicated and customised it in CAD, and then 3D printed it in black ABS to give it better durability.
We also added some grooves to the design on the top of the button covers to give it some grip since it is a foot activated switch cover. The whole process took us less than an hour.”

STEP THREE. FITTING THE NEW SWITCH.
“With the first step complete, we then began to fit the foot switch to the pedal casing. We had to create a custom base plate to mount the switch internally to the pedal casing and made minor modifications the screw flanges to fit the screws.
Once both parts were fitted up and working as intended, we gave Bátor a call to give him the good news. He was over the moon to have his guitar pedal back in action and was surprised how quickly we had created a 3d printed solution for his guitar pedal.
Thank you Bátor! Keep on rockin’!”
